ARTIST RESIDENCE
Design Intent
Artist Residence aims to provide both the public and its residents a unique neighbourhood identity through the connection with art forms. A research by NAC has shown that Art allows them to connect better with one another. 79% of Singaporeans agreed that the arts strengthen inter-generational dialogue and understanding. Millennials will be brought together through this integration of common interest, specifically visual arts.

Response to Site
Artist Residence took advantage of the proximity of the Goodman Art Centre, which is a place filled with history and art culture as an influence on its design. Artist Residence includes two point blocks which have raw looking expose concrete facades. Within the blocks, there are programs and spaces ideally for art enthusiasts and artists like potters, sculptors, painters, and wood carvers. Artist residence provides residents with stacks of vertically arranged art spaces at every 4 storeys is divided by a sky terrace. These sky terraces consist of art workshop studios and other recreational facilities for residents to enjoy. Furthermore, there are double volume communal art making corner on the 4th and 8th storey, for residents to create art either in public or private and mingle around with their neighbours. Interaction is ensured through zoning the levels for different groups of people based on their individual interests. This brings about the Dakota identity.
